What We Do

What We Do

The East Bay Labyrinth Project is engaged in three major efforts:

number one

The primary goal of members is to ensure the building of the permanent labyrinth in the Berkeley Marina.

Much work has already been done in this regard: assessing the site structurally, identifying engineering requirements that will support the assessment, evaluating who can provide materials and guidance in the actual construction of the labyrinth, and exploring what additional resources might be required for completion.

two

In support of that goal, we put on special solstice programs and community events. This is our way of keeping communities connected and involved.

The East Bay Labyrinth Project has offered guided walks on temporary, community created labyrinths at the City-approved site at the Berkeley Marina as well as at the Willard Community Peace Labyrinth, located at the Willard Middle School on Telegraph Avenue (between Derby and Stuart Streets) in Berkeley. Occasionally, we use other unique places nearby.

three

Since our hope is to open up the walks to whomever might enjoy the experience, a third goal is to make our labyrinth spaces as available as possible — even for groups with different schedules and programs than ours.

The Willard School labyrinth is available for people to walk any time except during school hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., M-F during the school year). If the front gate on Telegraph is locked, you can get to the labyrinth via the school access road opposite Andronic's driveway on Derby Street. Since there is no permanent labyrinth yet at the Berkeley Marina, we are in the process of developing a system whereby (for as long as the temporary labyrinths we build lasts), the public is made aware of their presence, as well as the requisite guidelines for community use. For more information about that, please check our Event Resources/Guidelines on the Resources page.
